Abstract It is difficult to observe potential risks of lifting or turn-over operations in the early stage before the real operation. Therefore, many dynamic simulations have been made to predict the risks and to reduce the possibility of accidents. However, because those were usually performed with predetermined and fixed scenarios, they couldn’t reflect the real-time control of an operator which is one of the most important factors to affect the operation. In addition, lifting or turn-over operation should be done by collaboration of more than two operators. Therefore, we study on a method for collaborative simulation which more than two operators can join in and perform. It is based on based on multibody system dynamics and virtual reality. To verify the efficiency and applicability of the method, it is applied to the collaborative simulation of block turn-over by three operators who control one floating crane and two crawler cranes, and one commander outside in the virtual environment.
