| Abstract | In a shipyard, lifting a block by using crane is one of the most important processes in the production of a ship or offshore plant. If the equilibrium position of the block is not found, an unexpected movement can occur during the operation. Therefore, to prevent the unexpected movement, the initial tensions of wire ropes connected between the crane and the block should be calculated to maintain the equilibrium state of the lifting block. At this time, as the number of wire ropes increases, the number of variables is more than the number of equations. Therefore, in this study, a method to determine the tensions of wire ropes was proposed. For this, an optimization method was mathematically formulated and solved with a genetic algorithm. To evaluate the suitability of proposed method, the optimization was performed for simple examples and applied to an example of lifting block suspended by the goliath crane. For verification, the dynamic simulation was performed by using the tensions of wire ropes obtained from the optimization. |
