Abstract With increases in international oil prices and reinforced regulations for greenhouse gas emission in many countries, the importance of ship route planning has been increased. In this manner, a method for determining an economical route of a ship based on the weather information, the estimation of fuel consumption, and the speed control during voyage was proposed in this study. To evaluate the applicability of the proposed
method, a prototype program was developed and applied to several routing problems in various ocean area.
