Abstract | Traditionally, the initial ship design starts from a parent ship. The parent ship is given in the 2D lines form, i.e., the offsets. A designer modifies the offsets and gets the new hull shape that satisfies new design constraints. The offsets are used for the numerical analysis to evaluate whether the modified ship can meet the constraints. Generally, the mesh is generated for the analysis using the offsets. Sometimes, the initial ship is given in NURBS surface form instead of the offsets. In this case, the offsets should be generated from the NURBS surface. However, it takes a long time to generate offsets as there is no dedicated software. Therefore, we present the dedicated offset generation program from NURBS hull surface. Also, the hull variation method is implemented so that the heavy CAD (Computer Aided Design) software is not necessary to modify the NURBS hull surface. The generated offsets are verified by applying to the seakeeping analysis, and it shows that the offsets are generated well for the analysis. It is expected that the developed program can reduce the analysis time and increase the accuracy of the analysis result. |
