Abstract
This paper proposes a procedure that minimizes travel distance of goliath crane with idle status. Many attempt have been tried to improve productivity of the goliath crane because it is a critical production resource of shipbuilding industry, It is useful for decreasing travel distance to allow delivering wires & shackles as possible instead of crane’s travel if wires & shackles change is needed. We adapt to the genetic algorithm, as an artificial intelligence technique and meta-heuristic, to find the best lifting sequence minimizing travel distance. The result shows our approach is superior to usual practice.
